Privacy Policy
Last updated September 25, 2026
This Privacy Policy describes how Bon Voyage (“Bon Voyage,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) collects, uses, and shares information when you use our language-exchange website, applications, and related services (the “Services”). By using the Services, you agree to this policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the Services.
This page is a standard template for the Bon Voyage product. It is not legal advice. You should have qualified counsel review it before relying on it in production.
1. Information we collect
We collect information in the following categories:
- Account information. Email address, password (stored in hashed form by our authentication provider), first name, profile photo, native and practice languages, proficiency level, and the timestamp of your 18+ and terms attestation at sign-up. If you sign in with Google, we receive the identity details Google shares with us, such as your email address and name.
- Profile information. Optional details you choose to share, such as a bio, hobbies, general location, and other public profile fields.
- Session and usage data. Bookings, session attendance, device and connection metadata needed to run live video, audio, and chat practice, reports you submit, blocks and favorites, and similar activity records.
- Payment information. If you subscribe to Bon Voyage Pro, our payment processor (Stripe) collects billing details. We receive subscription status, customer identifiers, and related billing events. We do not store full payment card numbers.
- Technical and security data. IP address, browser type, device information, cookies or similar identifiers, and bot-prevention tokens (including Cloudflare Turnstile when enabled).
2. How we use information
We use the information we collect to:
- Create and maintain your account, profile, and language preferences.
- Match you with practice partners, including AutoMatch and no-show reassignment, and operate video, audio, and chat sessions.
- Process subscriptions, verify speaking access, and provide customer support.
- Moderate the community, investigate reports, and enforce our Terms of Service.
- Protect the Services against fraud, abuse, and security incidents.
- Improve, analyze, and develop the Services.
- Comply with law and respond to lawful requests.
3. How we share information
We do not sell your personal information. We share information only as needed to operate the Services:
- Other members. Your public profile, first name, photo, languages, and similar details are visible to other members so they can find and practice with you.
- Service providers. We use vendors that process data on our behalf, including authentication and database hosting (Supabase), live session infrastructure (Daily), payments (Stripe), bot protection (Cloudflare), and Google if you choose Google sign-in.
- Legal and safety. We may disclose information if we believe it is necessary to comply with law, protect rights and safety, or investigate abuse.
- Business transfers. If Bon Voyage is involved in a merger, acquisition, or asset sale, information may be transferred as part of that transaction.
4. Live sessions
Video, audio, and chat practice sessions are delivered through a third-party meeting provider. Session media is used to connect participants in real time. We may receive attendance, page-presence, and technical events (for example, join and leave times) needed to operate bookings, AutoMatch, reassignment, and safety features. Do not share information in a session that you would not want another participant to see or hear.
5. Cookies and similar technologies
We use cookies and similar technologies that are necessary to keep you signed in, protect accounts, remember preferences, and understand how the Services are used. You can control cookies through your browser settings. Disabling certain cookies may limit features such as staying logged in.
6. Data retention
We keep personal information for as long as your account is active and as needed to provide the Services, resolve disputes, enforce our agreements, and meet legal obligations. Some records, such as billing history, security logs, or moderation actions, may be retained for longer where required. If an account is closed, we may anonymize remaining profile data rather than keep it in identifiable form.
Specific no-show and presence evidence used for automatic reassignment is deleted after 90 days. Ordinary booking, session, attendance, report, and billing records follow the broader retention rules above and may indirectly show that a participant did not attend.
7. Your choices and rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or export your personal information, or to object to or restrict certain processing. You can update much of your profile information in Account settings, and you can delete your account from the bottom of that page. To request another privacy right, contact us using the methods described below. We may need to verify your identity before fulfilling a request.
8. Children’s privacy
The Services are not directed to anyone under 18, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If you believe a person under 18 has provided us information, contact us so we can delete it.
9. International transfers
We may process and store information in countries other than the one where you live. Those countries may have different data-protection laws. We use service providers that offer contractual and technical safeguards appropriate to the Services.
10. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The “Last updated” date at the top of this page will change when we do. Continued use of the Services after an update means you accept the revised policy.
11. Contact
Questions about this Privacy Policy or our data practices can be sent through your Bon Voyage account or by contacting the operator of these Services. Related terms are in our Terms of Service and Community Guidelines.
