Terms of Service

Last updated September 25, 2026

These Terms of Service (“Terms”) govern your access to and use of Bon Voyage, including our website, applications, and related language-exchange services (the “Services”). By creating an account or using the Services, you agree to these Terms and our Community Guidelines. If you do not agree, do not use the Services.

This page is a standard template for the Bon Voyage product. It is not legal advice. You should have qualified counsel review it before relying on it in production.

1. Eligibility

You must be at least 18 years old to use the Services. By creating an account, you represent that you are 18 or older and that you have read these Terms and our Community Guidelines. You are responsible for the accuracy of the information you provide and for keeping your account secure.

2. Accounts

You may create an account with email and password or by signing in with Google. You must provide a profile photo and language preferences during sign-up. You are responsible for all activity under your account. Notify us promptly if you believe your account has been compromised. We may suspend or close accounts that violate these Terms or that present a safety, abuse, or legal risk.

3. The Services

Bon Voyage helps people practice languages through live video, audio, and chat sessions, scheduling, AutoMatch, and community profiles. Features may change over time. Free accounts may browse the community and available sessions. Creating, booking, AutoMatching, and entering a new speaking session require an active Bon Voyage Pro subscription, billed through Stripe, as described on the Pricing page. We do not guarantee that you will be matched with a particular partner or that practice will produce any specific learning outcome.

If a scheduled 1:1 partner does not arrive, we may warn and automatically reassign the waiting participant to another compatible learner. A provisional match can be replaced or closed until both connections are confirmed. Availability is not guaranteed.

4. Subscriptions and billing

  • Paid plans are billed in advance on a recurring basis until canceled.
  • Prices, quotas, and plan features may change. We will describe current terms on the Pricing page or in the billing flow.
  • You can manage payment methods and cancel through the Stripe customer portal linked from your account. Cancellation typically takes effect at the end of the current billing period.
  • Fees are generally non-refundable except where required by law or where we expressly state otherwise.
  • If a payment fails, we may limit Pro features until the invoice is resolved.

5. Community rules

You agree not to:

  • Harass, threaten, impersonate, or exploit other members.
  • Share illegal, hateful, sexually explicit involving minors, or otherwise prohibited content.
  • Record, copy, or redistribute another member’s session, image, or personal information without permission.
  • Use the Services to spam, scrape, reverse engineer, or disrupt our systems.
  • Create multiple accounts to evade bans, quotas, or moderation.
  • Misrepresent your identity, languages, or age in a way that could harm others.

Sessions are conversations with real people. Treat partners with respect, keep cameras and microphones under your control, and leave any session that feels unsafe. You may block or report other members. We may review reports, restrict accounts, and preserve records needed for safety and legal compliance. The fuller community expectations are in our Community Guidelines.

6. Your content

You retain ownership of content you submit, such as profile text, photos, and messages. You grant Bon Voyage a worldwide, non-exclusive license to host, display, and use that content solely to operate and improve the Services. You represent that you have the rights needed to grant this license and that your content does not infringe others’ rights.

7. Third-party services

The Services rely on third parties, including Supabase for authentication and data storage, Daily for live sessions, Stripe for payments, Cloudflare for bot protection, and Google if you use Google sign-in. Their terms and privacy policies also apply to the parts of the Services they provide. We are not responsible for third-party services we do not control.

8. Disclaimers

THE SERVICES ARE PROVIDED “AS IS” AND “AS AVAILABLE.” TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, BON VOYAGE DISCLAIMS ALL WARRANTIES, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT. We do not warrant that the Services will be uninterrupted, secure, or error-free, or that language practice with other members will be appropriate for every user.

9. Limitation of liability

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, BON VOYAGE AND ITS OPERATORS WILL NOT BE LIABLE FOR INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR FOR LOST PROFITS, DATA, OR GOODWILL, ARISING FROM YOUR USE OF THE SERVICES. OUR TOTAL LIABILITY FOR ANY CLAIM RELATING TO THE SERVICES WILL NOT EXCEED THE GREATER OF THE AMOUNT YOU PAID US IN THE TWELVE MONTHS BEFORE THE CLAIM OR TWENTY U.S. DOLLARS (US$20).

10. Indemnity

You agree to defend, indemnify, and hold harmless Bon Voyage and its operators from claims, damages, and expenses arising out of your use of the Services, your content, or your violation of these Terms or applicable law.

11. Termination

You may stop using the Services at any time. We may suspend or terminate access if you violate these Terms, if required by law, or if we discontinue the Services. Provisions that by their nature should survive (including ownership, disclaimers, limitation of liability, and indemnity) will survive termination.

12. Changes

We may update these Terms from time to time. The “Last updated” date will change when we do. If a change is material, we will take reasonable steps to notify you. Continued use of the Services after the updated Terms take effect constitutes acceptance.

13. Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws applicable in the jurisdiction where Bon Voyage operates, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Courts in that jurisdiction will have exclusive venue for disputes that are not subject to a mandatory consumer protection venue where you live.

14. Contact

Questions about these Terms can be sent through your Bon Voyage account or by contacting the operator of these Services. Expected community behavior is described in the Community Guidelines. Our data practices are described in the Privacy Policy.
